The Centre for Space Futures together with the World Economic Forum today announced the release of an insight report, titled Clear Orbit, Secure Future: A Call to Action on Space Debris.
Aligned with the missions of the co-authoring organizations, including the Saudi Space Agency, LeoLabs, and Novaspace, the report advocates for the needs of the space community, including service users, providers, policy makers and academia. The failure to address the current debris population properly today could cost the space industry between $25.8B and $42.3B over the next decade. The core message is the urgency of having a better Space for the benefit of all.
The report is the result of several community consultations to assess the risk and economic cost of space debris over the coming decade. It quantifies the potential economic impact of space debris on the global space economy.
The release of these insights represents a significant step in shaping future dialogue on orbital sustainability. By combining the Centre’s mission‑driven focus with the Forum’s global network and convening power, the report aims to provide the global space community with valuable guidance to address these existing and emerging issues.
We invite the community to share their perspectives and feedback as we continue to shape collective solutions for a safer, more sustainable orbital environment. This call is jointly endorsed by Mishaal Ashemimry, Managing Director, Centre for Space Futures and Helen Burdett Head of Planetary Solutions, Centre for Frontier Technologies and Innovation, World Economic Forum.
